An overview of my dissertation work.
My PhD work centered on a classical approach to understanding the quantum phenomena from quantum electrodynamics. We sought a solution by modeling the vacuum as a polarizable medium. This allowed us to classically renormalize point charges and to expand to positronium. The polarizable medium provided corrections to the gound state energy levels which match the Darwin correction term found in relativistic quantum mechanics.
